Welcome to the Department of Library & Information Science

About the Department of Library & Information Science

The Department started in June 1982 with Bachelor of Library and Information Science course. While Master of Library and Information Science started in 1988, M. Phil was first started in 1991-92, for a year & closed it because of insufficient Infrastructure facility. Again started in 2004 and Ph. D. in 1996.Like steadily the development of courses took place under the department. This may be the only University in Gujarat who has started all the four courses. B. LI. Sc and M. LI. Sc. are full time courses, (Two Semester) while M LI Sc & M. Phil is part time courses M LI Sc (Four Semester) & M. Phil (Two Semester). For PhD both the options are open – full time & part time.

The Department is situated at 4th floor of Bhaikaka Library.


There are three faculty members in the department. There are two Professor, both have good amount of experience in the field of Library & Information Science. They have about 30 years of experience at different capacity in library and 18th to 20th years experience in teaching only. They have also delivered numbers of lectures in different universities at different levels. They work as resource persons in refresher course s organized by different Universities. They also deliver their lectures in different Universities. Both of them are UGC expert committee members. They are ad-hoc member in different committee in different Universities. They received “Hari - Om Ashram” awards in the library science field. They have number of publications on their own. They have written and edited number of books. They have also attended and presented the numbers of papers in the seminars & conferences and work as a chairperson also.  The lecturer has more then four years teaching experience. At present he is doing research work. All the faculty members are also engaged in other academic activities such as, study tours, cultural activities, career counseling, campus diversity programmes and alike.
